The Project HB HOTEL BEETHOVEN
explores the changing times by glancing back and looking forward to the future. The dynamic process of change will be reflected by the exhibitions and performances to be staged in all parts of the building complex, starting in May 2009 and ending with the demolition. Hotel Beethoven can be understood here as a time capsule a unique and perhaps final opportunity to enact this process of representation. The artists chosen for the planned exhibition approach their work with a strong sense of place and space. On the hotel's ground floor and four upper floors, artists working in the genres of fine arts, dance and drama, film and media, music, and literature will be creating, presenting and performing their contributions to the processes of transformation. This artistic venue encompass the 59 hotel rooms on three floors as well as the dining room, the bar in the older section of the building, the kitchen, and the apartment on the fourth floor once used by the hotel manager. The artists themselves will decide just how many rooms will actually be opened for public display and which spaces will be used for concerts and dance performances. Many of the artistic contributions will address the vitality of change, seeing this vitality as both an element of change itself and as an opportunity for things to come. And by reflecting
Bonn
's international dimensions, this project will also embrace those processes that are not only reshaping this city but also stand for the wider trend toward globalization.
