HOTEL BEETHOVEN
In its heyday, Hotel Beethoven accommodated lots of international guests from the spheres of politics and the arts and was, for many years, the traditional meeting place of the Oxford Club.
Thanks to its location – directly on the Rhine promenade, next to the university, directly opposite opera house, and not far from government quarter – the hotel was at the heart of all the relevant developments in the "Bonn Republic“.
Its demolition marks one of the final stations of the metamorphosis undergone not only by the city of Bonn but also by the political system of the Federal Republic of Germany as a whole. Hotel Beethoven will now make way for a new complex consisting of terraced apartments and a restaurant. Bonn 's conspicuous new buildings contrast strongly with the unassuming small-town architecture of the present hotel building and bear eloquent testimony to the changed thinking in urban design and development.
